The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has welcomed the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the operation as a moment of hope for students, parents, educators, and communities across Nigeria.

In a statement issued by the Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the association expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and all security agencies involved in the successful rescue operation.

According to NANS, the rescue demonstrates the importance of coordinated security operations, intelligence-driven strategies, and effective collaboration between federal and state authorities in safeguarding lives and restoring public confidence.

The student body particularly commended the security personnel who reportedly spent several days navigating difficult terrain and dangerous forests to secure the release of the victims, describing their dedication, professionalism, and sacrifices as deserving of national recognition.

NANS also acknowledged the efforts of its National President, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye Afeez (BABTEE), whose sustained advocacy ensured that the plight of the abducted pupils remained a priority within the Nigerian student movement until their eventual rescue.

While celebrating the successful operation, the association called on the Federal Government to prioritise the rehabilitation of the victims through comprehensive support programmes, including trauma counselling, free healthcare services, educational assistance, scholarships, psychosocial support, and long-term welfare interventions for the affected families.

The association maintained that children who survive abduction require more than physical rescue, stressing that emotional recovery, psychological support, and educational reintegration are essential to rebuilding their lives and securing their future.

NANS further urged governments at all levels, security agencies, school authorities, parents, and community leaders to strengthen partnerships and adopt proactive measures capable of preventing future attacks on schools and other educational institutions.

Reaffirming its commitment to students' welfare and national development, NANS Southwest pledged to continue promoting peaceful coexistence, youth engagement, public sensitisation, and collaborative initiatives aimed at ensuring that every Nigerian child can access education in a safe, secure, and conducive environment.
