CAMPUS HUB – The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has expressed strong approval of the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration for its student-centric approach to governance in Osun State.

The commendation follows the strategic appointment of the NANS Southwest Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, widely known on campus as BILLIONCODES, as the Director of Campus Affairs for the Imole Youth Campaign Team, an initiative under the Osun State Ministry of Youth Affairs.

In a dispatch released to Student Gazette by the Zonal General Secretary, Comrade Ojetola Babatunde Y., the association described the appointment as a major milestone in the ongoing struggle for student representation in governance and policymaking.

From Protest to Policy

NANS Southwest noted that the appointment of a sitting Zonal Coordinator reflects a significant shift in the perception of student leaders, moving beyond the traditional view of students as mere agitators to recognizing them as competent contributors to governance and public policy.

“NANS Southwest views this development as a recognition of the relevance of students as important stakeholders in governance,” the statement noted.

The association further emphasized that students should not only be regarded as future leaders, but as active contributors whose voices and participation remain essential in shaping decisions relating to education, youth empowerment, and societal development.

The “Osun Challenge”

While applauding the Osun State Government, the leadership of the association issued a direct challenge to other governors across the Southwest region to emulate what it described as the “Osun Example.”

The body argued that at a time when unemployment and the increasing “Japa” syndrome continue to affect Nigerian graduates, involving competent student leaders in governance remains a necessary strategy for sustainable growth and youth development.

A Non-Partisan Win

Despite celebrating the recognition of Comrade BILLIONCODES, the association reiterated that NANS remains a non-partisan umbrella body committed solely to the protection and advancement of Nigerian students’ interests.

However, the leadership maintained that any government that prioritizes the inclusion, empowerment, and advancement of Nigerian students will always receive the support and cooperation of the association.

The statement concluded by reaffirming NANS Southwest’s commitment to promoting responsible leadership, student engagement, and progressive governance across campuses within the Southwest region.
