The Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy, has pledged continued attention to student welfare, youth development and efforts to address drug and substance abuse among young people.

The Chairman made the commitment when the Chief of Staff to the Coordinator of NANS Southwest Zone D, Comrade Adebiyi Caleb Adeyemi (BILLIONSMILE), paid him a courtesy visit on Friday, September 18, 2026.

The engagement focused on issues affecting students and young people, including education, welfare, youth development, community participation and substance abuse.

Drug Abuse Takes Centre Stage

One of the key issues discussed during the meeting was the challenge of drug and substance abuse among young people.

Hon. Oyedokun condemned illicit drug use and expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting measures that could help prevent young people from falling into substance abuse.

He highlighted awareness, community participation and responsible leadership as important components of the fight against the menace.

The Chairman also encouraged student leaders to use their influence positively and promote responsible conduct among their peers.

Chairman Reaffirms Commitment to Student Welfare

The local government chairman further expressed willingness to engage student leaders on programmes capable of improving the welfare and prospects of young people.

He reaffirmed his stated commitment to education empowerment and youth participation in governance, while assuring the NANS delegation of his administration’s openness to student-related concerns.

Support for BILLIONSMILE Campus Relief

The meeting also featured discussions on the BILLIONSMILE Campus Relief (BCR) initiative.

The annual intervention, championed through the Office of the Chief of Staff to the NANS Southwest Coordinator, focuses on providing support to students experiencing financial challenges and shortages of educational materials.

The initiative particularly targets periods when students face increased financial demands, including examination periods.

Hon. Oyedokun pledged support for the forthcoming BILLIONSMILE Campus Relief 2.0, according to the statement issued by the NANS Southwest Office of the Chief of Staff.

NANS Hails Engagement

Comrade Adebiyi Caleb Adeyemi expressed appreciation to the Chairman for receiving the delegation and for his stated willingness to support student-centred initiatives.

He conveyed the appreciation of NANS Southwest Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), and the zonal leadership.

The Chief of Staff said the engagement represented an opportunity to build stronger relationships between student representatives and grassroots institutions.

NANS Southwest said it would continue to engage government institutions and other stakeholders on issues affecting students across the Southwest.
