The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has called for stronger collaboration between students and the Nigeria Police Force to promote peace, security and responsible student activism across the region.

The call was made on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, during a courtesy visit by the NANS Southwest Zone D Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, popularly known as BILLIONCODES, alongside the Chairman of NANS JCC Osun Axis, Comrade Kehinde Ayokunle Temiloluwa, known as KAYWHYTEE, and other zonal directors, to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone XI, AIG Bassey Samuel Ewah.

During the meeting, the NANS Southwest coordinator commended the police for their efforts in protecting lives and property across the zone. He also advocated a more cordial relationship between law enforcement officers and students, emphasising mutual respect, effective communication and constructive engagement in resolving issues affecting the student community.

Responding, AIG Ewah urged Nigerian students to reject violence and embrace dialogue as a more effective means of addressing grievances. Drawing from his experiences as a student with a strong Aluta spirit, he noted that disagreements do not always require confrontation and encouraged student leaders to pursue legitimate demands through peaceful and constructive means.

“Dear Students, My Young Friends, Say No to Violence,” the AIG declared, urging students to promote responsible activism and work with relevant stakeholders towards building safer communities.

Another major issue discussed during the visit was the need for greater student participation in the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), a move proposed by the NANS Southwest coordinator to strengthen cooperation between students and the police.

AIG Ewah welcomed the proposal, expressing the PCRC's readiness to accommodate increased student involvement in community safety and security initiatives.

NANS Southwest Zone D reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful student activism, constructive engagement and improved police-student relations. The association also appreciated the AIG and the leadership of Zone XI for the warm reception, expressing optimism that the meeting would promote lasting cooperation towards a safer society.
