Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, may not witness the planned protest over the suspension of five students after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, announced that the action has been suspended pending further developments.
The student body explained that the decision followed constructive engagements with the university management, which reportedly assured NANS that the matter would be presented before the University Senate for review and consideration.
In a statement signed by the Zone D Coordinator, Comr. Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, NANS Southwest maintained that it remains concerned about the disciplinary action, describing the suspension as excessive. However, the organization emphasized that responsible leadership requires allowing dialogue and institutional processes to take their course.
The association therefore appealed to students, campus leaders, comrades, and stakeholders who have supported advocacy efforts on behalf of the affected students to remain calm and peaceful while awaiting the outcome of the Senate’s deliberations.
NANS Southwest reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of students’ rights, welfare, and academic interests, stressing that it would continue to monitor developments closely and engage relevant authorities where necessary.
The organization further assured students that it remains prepared to explore additional lawful and legitimate actions should the final decision fail to adequately address the concerns raised regarding the suspension.
The development has been welcomed by many stakeholders as an opportunity for dialogue and review, with expectations that the university’s internal processes will produce an outcome that balances institutional discipline with fairness, students’ welfare, and their academic future.
