The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, following his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

NANS Southwest described the result as a renewed mandate from the people of Osun State and said the outcome should usher in a stronger focus on education and youth development.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke winner with 511,067 votes, while his closest challenger polled 444,815 votes.

In a statement signed by NANS Southwest Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the association said students across the state participated actively in the election.

The student body noted that several student communities around major tertiary institutions, including OAU, UNIOSUN, UNILESA, OSCOHEALTH, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun and Federal College of Education, Iwo, were part of the electoral process.

NANS Southwest said it had encouraged students ahead of the election to collect their PVCs, reject violence and participate responsibly.

The association appreciated SUG leaders, student activists, comrades and grassroots mobilisers who contributed to the sensitisation efforts.

STUDENT WELFARE MUST NOW TAKE CENTRE STAGE

While celebrating the governor’s victory, NANS Southwest said the renewed mandate should come with renewed attention to the needs of students.

The association called for better infrastructure in tertiary institutions, improved healthcare services, stronger security around campuses and better transportation systems.

It also demanded more bursaries, scholarships, entrepreneurship support and employment opportunities for graduates.

The association said students should be able to study in environments where their safety and welfare are protected.

NANS Southwest further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his pre-election call for a credible electoral process.

It also acknowledged the roles played by INEC, security agencies, observers, journalists and civil society organisations in the election.

The association described students and young people as an increasingly important constituency in the political and developmental affairs of Osun State.

It congratulated Governor Adeleke and urged him to use his second mandate to leave a lasting legacy in education and youth development.
